The JY-Hyd team visited Mother Teresa’s home for the sick and dying destitute on 17th december 2006.

By 4:00 p.m, the JY family had gathered at the home and everyone proceeded to the men’s ward. The time to share the joy of this season with the inmates began with some beautiful action songs. Each one seemed to enjoy this and during the time, one could see a few of the inmates explaining to the others the meaning of the lyrics, or some clapping along, and some with radiant smiles. This was followed by a prayer and praise and worship to God. Then, the JY family began to distribute the cakes and oranges to each person, with a smile and a wish of the Christmas season.

After this, we moved on to the women’s ward and lo, what a welcoming sight! All the women were seated with expressions of anxiety and excitement. The time was again begun with action songs, and by the time we ended, our very own Abraham dressed as Santa, arrived dancing away to the tune of ‘Jingle bells’ welcomed by the cheers of everyone.

After singing to the tune of the carol, ‘Go tell it on the mountain’, everyone settled down to enjoy an entertaining dance performance by Crescentia. As much as she rightly danced to the tunes of the hindi song ‘Maahi Ve’ , a few of the inmates who sure are good dancers joined in and each one enjoyed every moment, till it came to an end with a round of applause. Not to forget to mention, during this time, Santa accompanied by Johnson, went around greeting each one of the inmates with a smile, wish and sweets while a few of the other members danced along with the inmates. After this, a prayer was made, and then the JY family once again distributed the oranges and cakes. Each one seemed content and while a few of the members went around and sat with the women and communicated with them, some chose to stand in the center and lent their voices to a beautiful Malayalam carol.

Later, the members gathered in the middle and danced to two more action songs, one being the very famous JY’s, ‘One little, two mandalena’. One more prayer was made for the well being of the 200 people in the home, for the sisters and the helpers. Then the Sister of the home thanked the JY Family and gave us an invitation to come every year and to have a Christmas celebration. We bid goodbye to the people. It was almost 6 p.m by now, and after a few quick snaps of the family, everyone took the exit.

As Vandana had hoped in one of the mails, “The visit has surely proved to be a memorable one, and indeed, we feel it is the best Christmas gift we have given ourselves, the gift of bringing a smile and happiness on the faces of those who are least loved.”
