Get Connected-Family gathering

Monday, July 17, 2006

"They devoted themselves to the teaching of the apostles' and to the fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer Acts 2:42

"Family gathering 06' Jesus Youth Family of Hyderabad gathers for a whole day of fellowship.
"Connected to God,Connected to each other - Through Jesus our Lord" - Get Connected!

A family gathering was organized by the JY-Hyd team on 16th Jul. 06. This was attended by JY members (Hyd), the nurses ministry, Campus and Teens ministry and regular members of the Central Prayer Group (CPG), Hyderabad. This was a one day program arranged at St.Francis college, Begumpet with the sole idea of building greater fellowship among JY members.

The program was titled “Get Connected” – A subtle reminder to everyone to always be connected with GOD and with one another.

There were 108 participants in all who attended this family gathering. There were some members who were from different parts of Andhra Pradesh who had come to experience the fellowship and sharing, to take back with them and spread it in their own regions.

The program started at 9:30 am with Action songs and everyone was encouraged to sing and dance for the Lord. Eabin (JY-Hyd) was the MC for the day who then conducted an ice breaking event, were everyone whole heartedly participated. This was followed by a very energetic and vibrant choreography put up by JY-Hyd members. The theme was “One in Heart, One in Mind”. This was well taken by the participants and everyone were left reeling for more.

A resource person, Bernard (JY-Nagpur) was called in to partake in our gathering. Bernard, led us all into a time of “Praise and worship”, followed by the Scripture reading, and a time where Bernard shared “THE WORD” along with his inspiring testimony.
Bernard shared some of his personal experiences of his life as to how his life had changed and his relationship with Christ kept increasing only because of the fellowship he shared with GOD & his fellow Christians. He quoted several verses from the scriptures, which showed the fellowship shared by the Jews, since the old times and the apostles in the new testament while preaching the good news. He also mentioned that he had left his career as a successful lawyer to work for the Lord for one complete year and how the Lord had blessed him. This truly inspired many.

We had 2 priests Fr. Vincent(Youth director–Hyd) and Fr. Bosco(Youth director-Vijayawada), who then shared with us some light moments and presented a short talk.

A workshop was conducted by Annette (full timer JY-Hyd) and Ashvin (Jy-Hyd). This included 2 parts. The first was a jigsaw puzzle wherein all the participants were divided into teams and each of them were given paper pieces of the JY logo, which they needed to re-assemble. The second was about the story of “The Broken Key” – This exercise elicited the importance of a broken key on a typewriter, its value & worth and compared that to the role of every Christian in the church. This story gave an insight as to how important all of us and our contributions are for the church? Like all the keys form a typewriter and each key has its importance, likewise every individual is important and together all of them form the church.
The groups were then asked to discuss how they relate themselves to the broken key and were asked to answer a few questions as part of their discussion.

Lunch was served after this, aptly arranged by Ian(JY-Hyd) and Alex(JY-Hyd).

Everyone assembled back in the hall at about 1:30pm and the session started off with Action songs.

Bro. Adolf(Animator, JY Hyd), then explained to everyone the importance of the theme song “One in heart, One in mind”, and encouraged everybody to learn and sing this song.

A skit was performed which conveyed the message that without the support of Christ in our lives we cannot go a step ahead. It doesn’t matter how strong we are? How good and smart we are? If we don’t have Christ we have got nothing at all.

Shibu (JY-Hyd), then introduced JY to the gathering. An update on all the JY events which happened this year and all the upcoming programs in Hyd and AP, was well presented in the form of a video and powerpoint slides. Members from various ministries then shared their experiences and testimonies too.

There was a short tea break and after this Prakash (Co-ordinator JY Hyd) then took control of the next session. The audience was divided into different smaller groups and each group had to come up with written commitments of how they would like to foster fellowship within their own regions.
Prakash encouraged everyone to give their personal commitments, to have greater fellowship and continue on the JY activities whenever & wherever possible.

Bro. Adolf, Bernard, Russel (JY Hyd) and Vignan(JY Hyd) then lead everyone into a precious time of Praise and Worship. Fr. Bosco made the exposition of the “Blessed Sacrament” and everyone went down on their knees to praise and thank God for the many blessings and graces they have been endowed upon. This marked the closure of the family gathering with the final blessing of the Blesssed Sacrament.

“Get Connected” – was an initiative taken up by JY–Hyd to strengthen the bond of fellowship, based on the lifestyle of the first disciples according to the “Acts of the Apostles”.

Leadership Training Programme Bangalore 16th -18th June
(Hyderabad Perspective)

June 17th

Onward Journey

We (Prasanth, Milinda..) started on June 16th in the evening, reached Bangalore around 3 p.m the next day, after our patience was tested to the max. by the bus driver. The moment we reached B’lore the JY group was there to welcome us, serve lunch & help us get right in time for our first session.

Session I – Time Management
(CC Joseph Chetan – Ex. National Coordinator of JY India)

Joseph Chetan elicited to us that we should use time effectively by long term planning, always anticipate & prevent problems, empower others around us which would lead to a personal self development.

He also stressed that communication with people is imperative, always being prepared, better planning & organizing, taking better care of oneself, seizing new opportunities, personal development, and empowerment.

One striking example that mentioned was of a football game happening with out goal posts. Nobody would enjoy such a game. The same way each of us should have a goal in life & work towards it & channelize all of our time and effort in achieving it .

This session made us realize that as a leader time is precious & we have to use it wisely & make good use it of every minute.

Session II – Understanding the world & its views on religion
CC Joseph Chetan

In this session, Joseph Chetan spoke about religion in general and what & how the world reacts to it. He put before us various examples like in Palestine religion meant Relationship, in Greece it was Philosophy, Rome its Institutional, Europe its Culture, Traditional Christian its Programmes, 3rd World its Projects, America its commercialized & in today’s world Religion is Entertainment.

Following this, the entire audience was then divided into small groups & we discussed about what religion & God means to today’s youth.
We had debated on questions like

Is Religion getting dad to worse?

Is religion becoming anything of the past?

Is today’s youth becoming less religious today?

I s God no more?, Is God a creation of man?

Do youth think they still need God?

Is it difficult to talk about God among youth?

Do the youth try God as they want to try something new???.

This discussion really helped & gave us time to sit back & think what our friends & others around us thought about religion. We could hear so much of the young blood talk, during this session. It was the voice of the youth & the ideas & thoughts, the barriers we face in talking about religion to today’s youth.
Finally, we concluded on the note that there is an apparent lack of meaning, permanent conflict, hunger for hope in the modern culture, & there is an undenying religious search in today’s world.

Session III – Discipleship - (Fr. Trevor)

As the theme suggests, Fr. Trevor spoke to us about leaders and disciples. He explained to us that followers ought to be like the master & follow him in everything.

Session IV – (Christian Leadership – CC Joseph Chetan)

In this session, Joseph Chetans mentioned to us that as a leader we should always remain focused on the following laws in order to bring Jesus to the people..
These include:
Law of the Lid : One has to realize that things can be done ONLY with the help of our Helper the Holy spirit & to put one’s thinking in line with the Lord.
Law of Vision : It mentions about how vision gives the power & motivation to march ahead.
Law of process : It is about being patient, work on oneself & let God work in you, which is a complete process.
Law of Solid Ground : Its about character and the foundation of Leadership
(Walk the talk)
Law of Magnetism : “Who you are is who you attract?” so keep doing a self check on who you are attracting & if we need to improve ourselves anyway.
Law of empowerment : It speaks about a leader’s ability to empower his people. It mentions that the people’s capacity to achieve is the leader’s ability to empower them.
Law of Reproduction : It takes a leader to raise up another leader & one should not be threatened as they see other leaders coming up.
Law of Priorities : A leader knows what to give importance to & what not too.
Law of Sacrifice : It speaks about how a leader should sacrifice certain things to go
up.
At the culmination of this session we could foresee a lot of young JY members as “leaders” in the making.

Camp Fire - (A spirit of Togetherness)

A camp fire organized for the group by the JY tribes who welcomed the group with foot tapping music and dance, fire displays & shouts in the tribal language singing praise to the King of Kings and God acknowledged this by sending the rains. The group then joined in for dinner & later dispersed for the night.

June 18th

The day began with praise & worship followed by adoration.
Later we had Manoj Chettan(JYIT Coordinator) interacting with the group & speaking to them about the JY group. Counseling sessions were happening simultaneously.
Following this there was a question/answer session.
Riju Chetan(National Cordinator), Manoj Sunny & CC Joseph Chetan were fielding the questions while the audience (young leaders in the making), were the ones throwing at them their queries.
All the answers were straight from the hearts of the leaders, were practical and real life time experiences, just showing interest & passion in overcoming the barriers they face every day in becoming better leaders.
The day ended with mass offered by the Bishop of Bangalore

Burning with the Love for Christ

To set Hyderabad on Fire we packed ourselves to hit our Mission Field.

Conclusion

In conclusion, this leadership program was a real inspiration for all the “wannabe leaders” for the sake of Christ’s evangelical work.

All thru the program we had enjoyed lotsa games, good entertaining music, informative and encouraging sessions & talks and above all a good fellowship.

This leadership program enriched, all its participants, encouraged the young minds, nourished and equipped them with some of the tools they could utilize in accomplishing their “Bigger Goal” for Christ.

June 29th 2006

JOURNEY:
We traveled by Shabari Express, which started at 12:30 pm in the afternoon. We were 34 in all. 12 from CJITS college, while the rest from St. Francis and different college. We were guided by 2 Jesus youth leaders Shibu and Jarald and 2 religious sisters from St. Francis. This journey was more prayer filled journey because twice a day there would be rosary and prayerful worship. It was a very comfortable day long journey.

ACCOMODATION

We reached Ashirbhavan where we were given the accommodation. The whole premises was very clean and peaceful. As soon as we reached we were divided into groups and were given different rooms. The rooms were very comfortable and spacious. We were given time till 4:30 to take rest. At 5 the sessions were to begin.

KOINONIA BEGINS

June 30th 2006
We started the koinonia program with a Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Cherrian the National Pastor of Jesus Youth. As Jesus youth believes that any beginning would be meaningful with the holy mass celebration. This was celebrated in the chapel which was located at the centre of Ashirbhavan building.

MUSIC MINISTRY

Praise and worship
We entered our most favorite session praise and worship. Before, we felt that we were helpless, betrayed, trapped by the situations around but the moment we started listening to the music and songs our hearts were filled with joy and peace. We jumped and danced. The Music band was so inspiring that each one of the them is a testimony and is being a fifth gospel in proclaiming Christ. There were 8 people in the band. Each song they sang captivated our hearts to sing along on and on and more curious to learn many more songs. After this beautiful session we had rosary dedicating each decade to many intercessions especially made for campus ministry.

At night – 8:30 (dinner)

We had the session continuing in the conference hall itself. We had a talk given my Eddy Chettan who is a Elder of Jesus youth. He gave a brief description about Jesus youth foundation. He also inspired us by giving his testimony. He described about how he got the desire of taking the initiative of being a Jesus youth. The first night itself the Jesus youth coordinator captured our hearts with never-ending smile.

June 31st 2006

Session I - (Morning 6:15)
The second day began with the Holy Mass followed by praise and worship. This day’s praise and worship was special one because it was led by brother Elvis who was a national coordinator of Jesus youth. As we were singing some heart touching songs we were made to recall all our sins and seek forgiveness from our Lord Jesus Christ. It was a renewal session for all of us. It went on for quite some time.

Break fast - (Morning 8:00)

Session II - 9:15 am - Manoj Sunny
(International Co-ordinator)
Manoj Sunny is the International coordinator of Jesus youth and a very eminent speaker. He made us realize individually that “I am called to live my life in it’s fullness as a daughter/son of my Creator God for building up of His Kingdom.”Including the importance of response to the call, he also talked about the purpose revealing about the Lord. He shared his views about how youth should seek ways to happiness by trying many things. The beautiful and the heart rending sentence with which he ended his speech was “the happiness you are seeking and have the right to enjoy because that has face”

Tea break

WORKSHOP
We were divided into different groups with the people whom we absolutely don’t know we made many friends in our respective groups. We were given a sheet with few questions in it and some time allotted for it to be discussed. These are the weak areas in our lives in some or the other way effecting our response to the call. The work we did was confabulation about the weak areas in each of our lives and made a commitment that we would follow Jesus. After this, we’ve been asked to give names to our groups some of us named “the igniters, the cherubims, adidags” and many more. Thought which was just a discussion but it was the time to realize how far are we responding to the call and what are the steps to be taken for us to be ready for the call and walk with Christ in a new image.

Lunch
This lunch was different from the rest of the days because we mixed well with new friends in Christ.

Session III – Beena Chechi
Lead singer of Rex Band.
Our generation needs more of practicality and reality. Here comes for what we were waiting for. She came up with her beautiful testimony and amazing talk about reality in life. She spoke about the very important six pillars in a catholic life.

· Personal Prayer
· Word of God
· Sacraments
· Fellowship
· Evangelisation
· Service to the Poor.

Session IV- Eddy Chettan :
He taught us how to be man/woman with vision. He gave us few steps to become true leader. Here are ten steps…
· Joyful and friendly
· Knowing God
· Searching God’s will
· Know and accept yourself
· Develop your talents
· Ready to serve and be helpful
· Be proud of your church
· Love your family and friends
· Be a witness
· Be a beautiful citizen

Session V- A choice given by Jesus youth.
There were three seminars conducted simultaneously on different subjects by different speakers at different places.
· Gifts and chrisms of the Holy Spirit
· Praise and worship
· Evangelization for E-Generation

All of us have joined the groups of our own interest. We learnt many things.. there was lot of useful information especially from evangelization for e-generation seminar. They showed us mainly the impact of the media on the youth. That was the moment we realized many things many of us took many decisions to put ourselves on the right track and reach the safe destination.

Session VI - Manoj Sunny
(International Co-ordinator)
Manoj came back with a different talk. It was very touching and informative too. He made us realize that to be a leader is to be a witness. To achieve something you got to pay the price. He asked us to follow Jesus who denied himself, who took up the cross, has been a personal witness and lived as a High Priest giving us a chance of living a life of royal priest.

Session VII - TALK ABOUT HOLY SPIRIT
· Accept Jesus as your Lord
· Once you’re cleansed He would come in you guide you to the truth.
· He creates Himself in us and we form a new image

Session VIII
There was skit enacted by students of Kerala who gave us a beautiful message that Jesus – The only way. And only this way we get happiness. And the session was followed by rosary and adoration where each decade was dedicated for a revival in all the south indian campuses.

Ist July

The final day brought us closer and more awareness about the Jesus youth. Soji (Asst National Co-ordinator) gave all information about the Jesus youth family. We were told few testimonies about the Jesus youth full timers. We even witnessed a beautiful skit “tree of life” after that we had mass celebration Followed by some life filled songs. We ended the session with praise and worship. Truly it was spirit filled youth retreat for us. We admit that there was a revival in all of us. Finally, we learnt as to how to be a good leader .This youth retreat has boosted up our energy and brought many things out from us. In this age where we are filled with so many frustrations “THAT GREAT LOVE WAS MISSING” but now it has made a DIFFERENCE. Because now we have experienced CHRIST’S LOVE and each one of us feel responsible for each drop of blood he shed for us .The Jesus youth has brought the sense of greater responsibility that we are responsible for the lost souls in this young age.
WE BELIEVE THAT TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE BY MAKING THIS PLACE A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE IN CHRIST FOR OUR FUTURE GENERATION.
“NAY IN ALL THESE THINGS WE ARE MORE THAN CONQUERERS THROUGH HIM THAT LOVED US”(ROM 8:37)…….AMEN

Destiny is not a chance, but it is a matter of choice. It is not to be waited for but it is meant to be achieved.

CHRIST------------OUR DESTINY………..WE WILL ACHIEVE……….AMEN
